Care of garden plants and flowers
Welcome back to our blog space!
This lovely climber, popularly known as the Bower vine or jarminoides pandorea, bears the scientific name Pandorea jasminoides and belongs to the Bignoniaceae family. It is a woody evergreen climbing plant native to Australia and Malaysia.
Importance in gardening and floriculture:
Its climbing growth habit makes it an invaluable landscape asset in ornamental gardening and
floriculture. Possessing a shrubby tendency that often benefits from initial supports or ties to guide
its ascent, it excels at vertically covering walls, fences, and pergolas, creating dense green screens
adorned with striking flowers. From a technical standpoint, it thrives best in full sun to partial
shade, requiring humus-rich, well-drained soils and frequent watering during its active growth phases
(spring and summer), while showing limited tolerance to severe frost.
Importance for pollinators:
Beyond its aesthetic appeal—highlighted by large, trumpet-shaped flowers in soft pinks with deeper pink
or violet-streaked throats—it plays a vital ecological role. Its blooms serve as a magnet for native
pollinators and nectar-seeking birds, providing essential food resources during warm seasons and
supporting local ecosystem balance and biodiversity.
Propagation:
Regarding its reproduction, this species is typically propagated via semi-hardwood cuttings during the warmer months or through seeds harvested from its elongated pod-like capsules.
I hope you enjoy the pictures as much as I did finding them along the trail! Best regards to all readers.
